Property Owners in the Town of Chatham: Please review the following information if you would like to ensure that your property assessment is correct.

May is Grievance Month in NYS.  This year is different!  But, you still have the opportunity to inspect the roll and/or grieve your assessment.

1)      Normal public inspection of the roll is NOT available because the Chatham Town Hall is closed.  Instead, please access the roll online via the town website: https://www.chathamnewyork.us/index.php which will forward you to the county website and the 2020 roll (available after May 1st.)
2)      If you or someone you know does not have online access, please contact the assessor using the information above and leave a message.  We will figure out another way to access the roll for you or them.
3)      The assessor will be in the office to take your phone calls during the following times:

Monday, May 4, 2020: 3 pm to 7 pm
Saturday, May 9, 2020: 1 pm to 5 pm
Monday, May 11, 2020 3 pm to 8 pm
Monday, May 18, 2020 3 pm to 7 pm

4)      Grievance Day will be May 26, 2019: 2 – 5 pm and 7 – 9 pm. Grievance forms may be sent in early to the town hall (address above) or dropped off at the town hall by 9 p.m. in the outside drop box.

5)      If you want to meet ‘in person’ with the BAR (Board of Assessment Review) – please check back for specific instructions.  If the NYS Pause is still in effect, this will probably take place via Google Meet, ZOOM, or by phone.

The assessor and BAR are working hard to make this difficult situation as stress free as possible.  Please do not hesitate to contact the office if you have any questions.

Update for Agricultural Exemption:ASAP
Only property owners who receive a letter in the mail from the Assessor's Office are required to fill out a new RP-305.
Application deadline for all exemptions: March 1

Grievance Day May 26, 2020 (Hearings at 2-5PM and 7-9PM)
Please do not think that you need to wait until May to grieve your assessment! Property owners are encouraged to contact the Assessor at any time to discuss their concerns.
