Dear Chatham,

Covid 19 has not only reached Columbia County, but has now been confirmed to be within the Chatham population.
As we look to minimize it's spread within our town and surrounding areas I implore everyone to continue to follow the
guidelines set forth by the Columbia County Department of Health, the New York State Department of Health, and
the Center for Disease Control (CDC).
Physical distancing of 6 feet, washing your hands frequently and thoroughly, and staying at home unless it is necessary
to leave are absolutely critical.
Many of our great community have stepped forward to volunteer their time and services to help those in need:

The Community Care Planning Group is a facebook group dedicated to connecting and plugging into various
self-organizing groups, using Facebook infrastructure. Folks on the group currently range from throughout several
NY State counties.

To channel and direct everyone's interests and needs, we have WORKING GROUPS (purpose and topics of interest
--for everyone from the bigger region of the Hudson Valley) and COMMUNITY PODS (smaller geographical units)
WORKING GROUPS help organize and generate actions, services + things, and are comprised of, serve, and connect
and mobilize people from a variety of communities.  COMMUNITY PODS focus on a specific geographical location, to
reach out and connect to your closest neighbors, determine your immediate community's needs and shareable resources,
and best modes of distribution. There is a Chatham Community Pod. Here is the link for the facebook page:

For those with questions, you can contact Kelly Bancroft:

Coronavirus Updates for the Town of Chatham-3/12/20

At the County Board of Supervisors meeting on March 11th, the Public Health Department gave a presentation on the COVID-19 virus. From a municipal standpoint, we were advised to continue to hold governmental meetings but ask that potential participants who feel sick abstain from attending.

Per the NYS Department of Health:

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Stay home when you are sick.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.

Please refer to the officialNYS Health Department Information on Novel Coronavirusand the Columbia County Health Department and websites for updates and guidelines to keep you and your family healthy.

If you are experiencing symptoms, please call your doctor’s office, Emergency Room, or Urgent Care before going, as they will need to make special arrangements, such as masking any symptomatic people, to keep from potentially infecting others.

As always, please check the Town website for updates on any potential meeting or event changes.
